PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Is the government ready to deal with challenges with social networking as it relates to open meetings, public records, contracts, employment laws, and other related issues?

PRESENTERS:Jeanine Hummer, City Attorney, Upper Arlington
Jeanine is the City Attorney for the City of Upper Arlington, where she serves as the Chief Legal Officer to the City Council and the City staff. Her office prosecutes misdemeanor offenses in the Franklin County Municipal Court and Upper Arlington’s Mayor’s court. She created and now oversees a Mediation Program, Criminal and Traffic Diversion Programs, Passing Bad Check Program, Domestic Violence Witness Protections Program, and Legal Training for Police Officers (including OVI training manual). Areas of practice include municipal Law, employment law, union negotiations, administrative rule drafting, legislative drafting, contracts, zoning law and civil service law. She negotiated economic development agreements for the Kingsdale redevelopment, the Lane Avenue mixed use project, and the Ohio State University Wexner Medical office building located at Kingsdale. She has extensive trial and litigation experience. Jeanine was hired as City Prosecutor in July 1989. She was appointed First Assistant City Attorney in April of 2001 and appointed City Attorney in January of 2002.

She was an Assistant Public Defender in the Franklin County Public Defender’s Office from January 1986 to July 1989. Her trial experience included both jury trials and court trials. Jeanine received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from The Ohio State University and her Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Toledo in 1985.

Jeanine is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, the Franklin County Trial Lawyers, a Past Member of the Board of Editors, Ohio State Bar Association 2000-2002, the Ohio Public Defenders Commission 2002-2003, and The Coalition of Family Violence/Legal System Task Force July 2009 – current. She participates in many community activities. She is married to Mark Hummer, a Judge in Franklin County Municipal Court, and has four children.
